Therapy Process at Birch Therapy Clinic
Understanding Your Therapy Sessions
All therapy sessions are conducted via Microsoft Teams, which is free and easy to access. Your first session will be an initial assessment, which enables us to establish the best form of therapy for you.
What is an assessment and why do I need this?
Your initial assessment session usually runs for 50 minutes and is similar to a ‘triage’. This is an essential step in its own right. We are skilled assessors, and by the end of this session, we will be able to tell you the following:
- The type of therapy best suited to your needs, and how many sessions are likely to be required (this is always a collaborative discussion, to ensure we are meeting your requirements and personal preferences, while remaining ethical).
- If there are any other services or treatment options that may be better suited to your needs, we will advise, and can assist with any onward referral, or signposting, if required.
- Allocation to the most appropriate therapist for your individual needs (matching). Sessions will usually take place consistently, though this can be discussed with your individual therapist if you require flexibility with times and days.
At Birch Therapy Clinic, we work with a high level of professional integrity, in order to avoid ‘therapeutic drift’ – this is when someone goes to therapy for a long period of time but does not gain significant benefit. We do not work this way. Part of our professionalism involves regular reviews and clear objectives, to ensure that your therapeutic goals are being met, and that therapy remains effective and robustly beneficial for you.
